Fluid Mechanics and Energy Lab


                     


The Fluid Mechanics and Energy Lab is equipped with modern tools and facilities to demonstrate fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics for undergraduate students both in compressible and incompressible fluids. Two sessional courses on Fluid Mechanics and one sessional course on Fluid Machinery can be conducted soundly in these well-equipped laboratory.Several research activities for postgraduate students in this laboratory focus on analytical and experimental investigations into a broad class of Fluid Mechanics and Energy related problems. Prof. Dr. Md. Shamim Akhter, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rofiqul Islam, Dr. A. K. M. Abdul Hamid, Dr. Mohammad Shahed Hasan Khan Tushar, Dr. Uzzal Hossain Joardder and Mr. Shazib Uddin with other faculty members are technically sound and active in the field of Fluid Mechanics and Energy research including the following important areas:


  • Incompressible flow turbo machinery (Turbines, Fans and Pumps)
  • Computational fluid dynamics
  • Wind engineering and aerodynamics 
  • Measurement techniques for internal flows
  • Jet and nozzle flows
  • Energy conversion systems
  • Hydrodynamics of gas-solid two-phase flow systems
  • Fluidized bed pyrolysis and gasification of bio-mass and solid wastes
  • Fixed bed pyrolysis of solid tire waste
  • Aerosol technology


Extensive experimental facilities have been developed for all of these research areas. Currently, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rofiqul Islam handling a research project of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) funded by jointly World Bank and Government of Bangladesh for the period of 2014–2017. The main objective of this project is the improvement of postgraduate research facilities in Fluid Mechanics and Energy laboratory. Prof. Dr. Md. Shamim Akhter also completed similar project during 2011 – 2013 to improve the facilities of this lab.
